The song is about the industrialization of the world. Hence, the loss of “religion” and faith in things unknown as mankind entered into a more scientific era where questioning and finding answers became the norm.

the way i inturpeted the song was hes in love with someone and he feels he said to many things that he regeted to the person but at the same time he didnt say what he wanted to say. the part when he talks about choosing his confesions its him trying to think of the rite words to say to her. hes also scared that his “fantasys” he has about her may fail. and the loosing my religion is him trying to give up his own persnal belifes to be with her but he dosent know if he can…thats the way i see it
it is about a person who is in a crisis and feels he is struggling on his own and losing his hope and faith in life or god, and starts to be sceptical about his religion, or losing his connection with god/religious beliefs, hence “losing my religion”.
