“How Did You Lose Your Religion?” – Ricky Gervais @ Big Think. — Subscribe to Science and Reason: • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com • www.youtube.com — Question: How did you lose your religion? Ricky Gervais: Well, I love I love Jesus. You know, I believed in God. I think, my mom wanted me to. I think, for a working class woman, whos rushed off her feet, you know, the most she can hope for is the their son dont so they dont get killed in a bar room fight. And Jesus, I suppose, is an invisible, free babysitter, you know. If I cant see you, someones watching you. Which is obviously misplace. Very sweet, you know, but misplaced. And I was about 8 and I was I was doing something from the Bible and my brother came in, he was older than me, his name is Bob, still is, and he was about 19, and he said, ‘What are you doing?’ I said, ‘I’m doing this for Jesus, God’. He said, ‘Why do you believe in God?’ And my mom went, ‘Bob!’, and I knew you. I knew then that she was hiding something from me and he was he was telling the truth. And I thought about it. And I was a bit of a scientist even then. You know, I could read really well by the time I was 3. I suppose I was a bit of an experiment cause I was the youngest by 11 years, you know. And I was into science and nature and I suppose I was a logical person. And I thought Yeah. But I learn it through body language. I learn it through that human [interplay] between this two people. The one was worried about what the other one was

    Its not about believing theres a god, its about believing truth. Its interesting that this channel is called freethinker. The typical atheist has a very closed and narrow mind and doesnt care or want to hear about anything true outside of their vernacular. Theres just enough pretense in atheism to keep them in their euphoria.

    @bcmalloy I dont think religion has any thing to do with magic Bcmalloy, Im sure he has rules that he creates and relies on, is what he is trying to say, have you watched the other stuff he does? Its quite good

    @AntonGorodezky Either look up people like Richard Dawkins, or go to a museum.

    Do you have a link for me where I can read about the proof? I read the german wikipedia-article about evolution and it sad there’s many circumstantial evidence for evolution but it was impossible to watch evolution happen yet – simply because the process takes so long.
    Well Wikipedia isn’t always right, isn’t it? I’m looking forward to read about how evolution has been proven, please give me a reference where I can read about it.

  5. KOICrowz says:

    @AntonGorodezky “As far as I know”, then you don’t know a sufficient amount about evolution if you think it hasn’t been proven.

    @KOICrowz
    As far as I know there is a lot of circumstantial evidence but it was impossible to proof evolution yet, because it needs so much time. Anyway it’s good they keep on researching about evolution to hopefully find an incontrovertible proof for it sometime.

  7. KOICrowz says:

    @AntonGorodezky Many atheists defend evolution because there is actual evidence for it, and it has been proven.

    i lost my religion when i read more of the bible than i ever did (my partner turned born again christian). i only read the basics of evolution a couple of years ago and i could kick myself for my wasted years of ignorance

  9. jaylias says:

    evolution did not happen by accident or chance, it is the opposite. the theory says that since life emerged natural selection has chosen the mutated genes that have increase the chances of survival and therefore the passing-on of genetic material. Millions of years of refinement is not an accident, imo.

    I lost it when I was able/ capable of thinking for myself.

    @Airfresh0
    I also read his book. I was an atheist before and I still am BUT I didn’t buy his story about how evolution works.
    Actually, I don’t understand why many atheists defend evolution kind of dogma-like. Even if the evolution-theory is false, that does not mean the theists and intelligent designers have the holy grail. 1+1 isn’t 3, but it’s also not 7 oder 13!

    I love this guy. He speaks very clearly and makes it fun and interesting for the audience to listen and understand. His story is moving about his Brother and his Mom.

    I used to believe in God, but I feared God because apparently I was told being Gay was wrong for religious reasons. From then on, I started asking more questions and learning more about who I am and the world I live in. It eventually lead to my Agnosticism and today I am a proud, Gay, Atheist.

  13. thefeebles says:

    Brilliant! His point about being kind to others and positive about live, because this is his only time here on Earth is just perfect. It is exactly how I feel too.

  14. DrTorture28 says:

    Ricky just said everything I believe in 4 minutes and 25 seconds!

  15. CHARESTHEHAMER says:

    Most atheists loose their religion not long after their priest refuses to have sex with them.

    they then waddle down to the nearest gay bar and proceed to loose their religion with whoever is drunk enough to think they look good.

  16. JuniorDExchangecore says:

    I lost it when I developed a brain at around thirteen years of age.

    @yubarraboo

    As opposed to simply screaming that your opponent is a coward, which is oh so brave…

  18. yubarraboo says:

    @tomfrh

    The argument of an absolute coward.

  19. sam8110 says:

    Argh atheism is default! “Atheism is not a view, it’s a response to a claim. The claim being that a god exists.”

  20. sam8110 says:

    I too believe in logic and live by logic. It’s so nice to know there are others out there who see the world the way i do. Beautiful in it’s own right without any need for inventing a story as to how this world exists. No need to invent a reason as to why i am kind and caring. I don’t understand the press atheists get, we bring people no harm. Its the creationists that cause harm forcing their beliefs on others.

    @Airfresh0 welcome to the rational world m8;)

    No, he’s motivated by the world at it is, for the benefit of reality. Evidence over interest.

    google Doe’s Account, mindblowing.

  24. MorganMarvinson says:

    “there are four million species of animals, and they’ve evolved by accident is more beautiful than any intelligent design.” Certainly more incredible!
